Bruce Colglazier Pappas
I lived in France for 15 months in the 1970s. I learned to love "un café" or "un express." There was nothing like it in the States. I came back and would only drink "strong" coffee, unlike the "American dishwater" that passed as coffee. I always ordered espresso when out for dinner. I tried a Krups espresso maker at home with no luck. I retired in 2014 and decided to go after the best method to make espresso at home. I dove down the deep rabbit hole of educating myself. In December 2015, I bought my first La Pavoni manual lever off eBay on a whim, a used 2005 Gen3 (Millennium) Professional. I was cheap and wanted to be close to the variables of what makes a good espresso. I found the La Pavoni manual lever owners Facebook group when it was 300 members and helped build it to over 12K members. In September 2017, I bought a Niche Zero coffee grinder on a lark, too, on Indiegogo. In October 2018, I started a Niche FB group, which has grown to 10K members. I met the Niche owners and got to know James, son of the creator. In 2019, my wife and I went to Italy and met many LP friends at Host Milano. In August 2021, I gave up admin duties of the LP group due to cultural conflicts. I also gave up admin duties of all other FB groups. I whittled down my FB account, so I had a small presence and still retained my FB group content. In November 2022 without warning or explanation, the current LP group admins removed me from the FB group that I helped build. In December 2022 with the reason to retain my FB account gone, I took the big leap and deleted my FB account and most social media. Today I own a semi-automatic La Spaziale Lucca A53 Mini from Clive Coffee, and my tricked out LP "Ultra," as well as a collection of brewers and other coffee equipment. I am a fan of James Hoffmann, who believes "coffee connects people," and Hoon's Coffee, who connects people through YouTube Lives. I believe in connecting people, too, and am a life-long learner at age 72.
